My real job

In my second year of college, I wanted to find a job related to my school major. Everywhere I looked for work, they didn't choose me. They said I was too young and had no experience.

One Sunday, before opening the newspaper to cut out the employment classifieds, I prayed. I acknowledged in my heart that God is supreme, and that there is no one more important than Him, or with more influence than Him. Then, I found an appropriate ad and sent in my résumé. Later, these people called me in for an interview.

On the way to the interview, I realized I was thinking negatively. I was acting like someone who was bitter about being unemployed. I knew I had to start thinking the thoughts that God was sending me, instead. One of these thoughts was this: that God has given me special, spiritual qualities to express. Expressing those qualities is my real work!

As a result of this change in my approach, I got the job. For me, the most important part of this experience was to understand the real meaning of work. I now understand that the child of God can't, even for an instant, fail to reflect his or her divine Parent — just as a ray of sunshine can't fail to shine with the light of the sun. Otherwise it would no longer be a ray.:)
