SCIENCE & HEALTH
A great book for you!
Are there books that you turn to for ideas about God, or to find comfort and healing? Four young people, Mario Casa of Uruguay, Oscar Cerón and Antero Villalpando of Mexico, and Mia Signs of the United States, told us that they read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy for spiritual solutions to things they face everyday. We asked them to tell us more about what teenagers are thinking and why Science and Health is a book that's helpful:
What effect does Science and Health have in your life?
Mario: It gives me peace. The ideas in this book bring tranquillity to the hectic life we have and allow us to live without craziness or despair, but with a feeling of order. Open any page and you will find exactly the message you need.
What's different about Science and Health from other books?
Mia: It states the truth and it can help you every day. You can keep on reading it and get new ideas from it every single time.
How are you using the ideas?
Mia: In school and other activities, there are ideas around that aren't really good. They sometimes get to me and I start thinking about them. At times like that Science and Health is a big help because the ideas in it are correct and positive. So I can think about them instead.
Have you told your friends or teachers about this book?
Antero: Yes. A teacher started talking about Genesis and Revelation in her class. I told her I know of a book that explains these very well. I gave her Science and Health. She liked it very much. I hear from friends that she has changed the way she teaches. She asks the class what is God's plan for all humanity and brings out the idea we are perfect.
Oscar: I have shared it with many friends and teachers. Several have stopped drinking and smoking. One who is a Catholic has many questions. I always am able to give him answers from the ideas I get from this book. He saw that I was always at peace and calm. I told him it was because I read Science and Health and the Bible every day. Now this friend turns to God whenever he has a problem and reads Science and Health, too.
Have you introduced the ideas in this book to anyone else?
Oscar: Recently I went to the Consulate to get my visa. A woman there expressed a lot of fear that she would not receive the visa she needed. Immediately, I remembered reading in Science and Health about what angels are — “God's thoughts passing to man ...” (p. 581 ) and felt inclined to share something about these ideas. I said: “If your motives are right, you will get the visa, because it comes from God, and your Father blesses you. This does not depend on the consul or anyone else.” When she came out she said: “Guess what? They first said no because I don't have a lot of money in the bank. But suddenly everything changed and they gave us the visa for 10 years (the maximum)!”
Mario: I participated in a book fair here in Uruguay, Many people were interested in this book. One of them was the President of the Republic of Uruguay. He stopped by our booth and showed so much interest we gave him a copy of Science and Health.
If you could send a message to all the young people in the world, what would it be?
Mia: Don't go along with the stereotypical teenager view that says teens are rebellious, they have to have certain problems, cannot think for themselves, and stuff like that. You can be your own individual person. You shouldn't just go along with what everybody's doing. Have your own ideas and use them. You're always loved by God and you can always count on God being there. :)
