No longer a prisoner

Prison. Most of us have known what it is like to be in a prison of fear, limitation, lack, disease, unhappiness. Fewer have actually been locked up within prison walls. Prisons of any kind are not part of God's kingdom. As Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Truth makes man free" (P.225). Yet today crime has become a major concern in many areas of the world.

From the Bible, especially the New Testament, and from Science and Health, it can be clearly seen that salvation is for everyone. When prison doors are opened after a sentence is served, a prisoner must be released to lead a redeemed life, with crime checked. Are prison sentences merely to exact revenge? If so, society needs to keep examining them. Can a man or woman leaving prison—or even while still in prison—lead a life of regeneration and rebirth, of reformation and a fresh start? Unequivocally, yes.
