One morning as my dog (on a leash) and I descended the outside steps of our home, she suddenly lurched, jerking me headlong behind her. As I stepped forward to break my fall, there was a loud snap and I felt severe pain in my foot. To all appearances the foot was broken.

In that moment a citation from that week's Bible Lesson [outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly] came to mind (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 463): "To decide quickly as to the proper treatment of error—whether error is manifested in forms of sickness, sin, or death—is the first step towards destroying error."

I knew that following this admonition was where I should begin my treatment. I quickly affirmed that as the child of God, man cannot "fall from his high estate" (see Science and Health, p. 258). Man is upright.
