Angels of His presence

"Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour.... And the angel of his presence saved them." Isa. 63:8, 9. Maybe we've all felt saved on occasion, dearly cared for by our heavenly Father-Mother God. But perhaps we still sense a certain distance between ourselves and God. Perhaps we've wondered how to be spiritually closer to Him, how to feel His presence more keenly.

Think of angels. They're something most people know a bit about. Regular readers of this periodical are probably familiar with the many things that Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has to say about them, particularly the definition she gives in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "Angels. God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality." Science and Health, p. 581.

But what about His presence? And just what do angels have to do with it? Well, we've all probably wondered about God's presence, what it might be like to see Him face to face, to be completely bathed in His radiance. And—if you're like me—you may have felt absolutely certain that you've never had this experience, never really stood before Him at all.
