"I laughed to think of God leading someone to do a job he was not ready to do!"

Toward the end of my eighth-grade year, I was selected as a contestant for the annual speech contest. Everyone thought it was such an honor, except me! I didn't know how I could possibly give a speech in front of the whole school. All I could think of was critical opinions and masses of staring eyes in a hot, uncomfortable room.

I had two choices. I could beg Dad to write a note to my speech teacher to get me out of the ordeal. Or I could accept the challenge and meet it. Finally I chose the latter.

While trying to memorize my speech, I stopped to look up some passages in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. One thought I found helpful was (p.368), "When fear disappears, the foundation of disease is gone." In my case, I knew that when the fear was destroyed, the foundation of my nervousness would be gone!
