I first became interested in Christian Science through a classmate when in my last year of school.

I had become dissatisfied with the answers received from Sunday School teaching in another church about four years before this, so had stopped attending. My friend invited me to go with her to a Christian Science Sunday School. I did, and was thrilled when the teacher could answer the questions I had been seeking answers to. My friend moved away shortly after this, but I continued to attend Sunday School and church regularly. My mother permitted me to go, but my dad was not too happy about it. I continued until I was twenty, and then after waiting a year I joined the branch church.

I married a young man whom I met at the church, and he also became a member.

Shortly after this, in connection with my employment, I was compelled to take a medical examination, and the doctor painted a grim picture to me. He said that if I didn't have an operation for an inward goiter I would not be here in a year's time, as I had lost so much weight.

Until this time I had never had any physical problem, so this was a challenge. I got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner, and treatment was lovingly given. My parents objected strongly to this, but I felt strong in my thinking and knew I could be healed. The practitioner gave me treatment for some time, and meantime I had quit work and spent much time studying the two textbooks—the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

Later I had another practitioner, when the first one asked to be relived of the work, and I continued my study. This seemed to be a slow healing, but it was complete. I have enjoyed good health ever since, and most problems that have arisen since then have been instantaneously healed.

I shall always be grateful for this healing, as it made me seek a better understanding of God and His perfect creation.

Since this one over thirty-one years ago we have had many healings in our home.

I would like to mention the overcoming of a fear which bothered me from the time I was a small child. I was an only child and seemed to think I wouldn't be able to face up to the time my parents would no longer be with me. Since that time they have passed on, and in both cases I was completely free of any sense of loss or separation, because I know God is my Father-Mother and is with me forever, as He is with those whom we no longer see here.

I am grateful for the privilege of having class instruction and for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church.

The picture the doctor presented of the problem confronting my wife was a gloomy one.

It was indeed a test of our sincerity and trust in God as young students of Christian Science. Even with the help of a practitioner our fear was great, and the condition seemed unyielding. At one crucial stage of the illness I almost called the doctor, but instead, I knelt and prayed. Eventually our fear and the fearful symptoms yielded to the application of the truth. I do feel this healing was accomplished by my wife's strong faith in God's perfect creation and the loving assistance given by the practitioner.
