Wearing Life's Vesture

By casting lots the soldiers at the cross imagined that one of them could appropriate Jesus' seamless robe. We know that the Christly garment could not be obtained that way. But do we not sometimes think that there is a possibility we ourselves might wear it? If so, we need to ponder these words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science: "The vesture of Life is Truth." Science and Health, p. 242;

God, divine Life, invests His whole creation with Truth's fullness, radiance, and wholeness. To do this is His nature. Divine creativity finds its inevitable expression in the spirituality of real creation. To find that this reality pertains to us here and now is our destiny in Christian Science.

For many of us our first experiences in Christian Science proceeded from an awakened understanding of the absolute goodness of God. We found Him to be the sole cause and creator. We learned that He is universal, impartial, and impersonal Love. We accepted, in a measure, the unreality of evil. We saw something of the needlessness and powerlessness of its effect, suffering and penalty. We submitted to God's care.
