"Ye are my witnesses, saith the...

"Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God" (Isa. 43: 12 ). I am happy to bear witness to the healing power of God.

My first healing in Christian Science occurred while I was reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. This book had been lent me by a neighbor after I had told her I had never heard of Christian Science, and it was with curiosity that I opened it and began to read. Little did I know that I had opened the door to a completely new way of life for me and my family.

I found myself so engrossed in reading about the inspiring concept of God as Life, Truth, and Love that I read on hour after hour with a growing sense of joy and peace. A week or so later, when I had finished the book, I realized I had been healed of a severe form of nervous dyspepsia which had made my life miserable for several years. From then on, joy reigned in our home, and the whole family was blessed.

As my spiritual understanding of God's allness increased, so human supply increased, and living conditions improved. As self-love, self-justification, and self-pity were gradually overcome, better health was experienced.

After joining a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I was instantaneously healed of acute fibrositis in my right arm when I willingly accepted a church duty to change the literature in our display case on the railway station platform. This case was fixed rather high on the wall, and I had to reach above my head to clean the window. I found I could do this quite freely without a trace of pain in my arm, which had been out of action for months previously.

On one occasion my son and I were driving along the main road to London when the steering gear of the car ceased to function, and we found ourselves swerving from one side of the road to the other. My son said, "Hang on," and we both hung on to God, whose control we had learned to trust. The car finally landed up on a grass verge and toppled gently onto its side. We scrambled out.

I became aware of a pain in my back which made me catch my breath. Someone kindly drove me home, and a practitioner gave me treatment. That night I lay still in bed and sang quietly and happily all the hymns I knew from the Christian Science Hymnal until I fell asleep. In the morning I awoke completely free.

My husband was healed of the smoking habit in an unusual way. He left home on a Monday morning on business which kept him away until the following Friday. When he returned he said. "I have given up smoking," and I asked him when this had happened. He said it had been on the Monday afternoon. I knew then that the work I had been asked to do for a friend with a similar problem had also reached out to my husband, for it was on Monday afternoon that the prayerful work was done. My husband has never smoked since, and that was over sixteen years ago.

This healing showed me the universal nature of Truth, which is always ready to bless all alike. "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals" (Science and Health, p. 13 ).

For class instruction, membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, which has given me main opportunities for active service, I am deeply grateful. Daily I thank God for His infinite goodness, for sending His Son. Christ Jesus, to show us the way, and for Mrs. Eddy, whose life was devoted to the revelation of Truth, which is freeing us from human bondage.—(Mrs.) Esther A. Wilson, Lytham St. Annes, Lancashire, England.
