Mary Baker Eddy writes in...
Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 264 ), "Matter disappears under the microscope of Spirit." Through the study of Science and Health and our Leader's other writings, we learn how to use this "microscope of Spirit" in our daily experience.
For several years I have directed a women's chorus. At one time there were six members who caused a great deal of unhappiness in the group because of their critical and jealous attitudes. Instead of the rehearsals being joyous and free, they were burdensome and dull. This was not the right situation, because we were meeting to express harmony. I began to use "the microscope of Spirit."
Each time the erroneous picture came into my thought, I reversed it by knowing the oneness of Mind and the constant operation of omnipotence. I knew that man is always in his right place. One of the statements from Science and Health which was very helpful reads (p. 463 ), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."
The word "properly" stood out to me. I knew that God was on the field and that the error would be removed through divine Love and that this did not mean the removal of persons but of discordant conditions. However, when rehearsals began in the fall, one by one the six members left the group. During all this time there never was an unkind remark made to anyone, and friendly relations have continued with these individuals. This proves that when we turn the light of Truth on the error it disappears.
Another experience that stands out to me was a physical healing. One morning I awakened with all the symptoms of influenza. My schedule was a very heavy one, and in the evening my pupils were giving a recital. I went to my studio, knowing that animal magnetism cannot obstruct right activity.
Before I began my work, I diligently studied the Christian Science Quarterly Lesson-Sermon, listening for the thought that would heal the situation. Suddenly these words on page 14 of Science and Health stood out: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual, —neither in nor of matter,— and the body will then utter no complaints."
I closed my eyes and began to see that, as God's idea, I was never outside Life and intelligence, that God fills all space, and that I coexisted with Him. I was filled with the light of the Christ, Truth. I finished my study and went on with the day's activities. Later in the day I realized that I was completely free.
I can never be grateful enough for Christ Jesus; for our beloved Leader, who revealed Christian Science to this age; for the Sunday School, her wise provision for class instruction and the yearly association meeting, the periodicals, and all the good that Christian Science is bringing to the world.—(Mrs.) Grace Bens Bruflodt, Detroit, Michigan.
