Inquirers Are Welcome

Mrs. Eddy writes (Christian Science versus Pantheism, p. 13), "Love all Christian churches for the gospel's sake; and be exceedingly glad that the churches are united in purpose, if not in method, to close the war between flesh and Spirit, and to fight the good light till God's will be witnessed and done on earth as in heaven."

Christian Science Reading Rooms welcome all who are interested in inquiring about the teachings of Christian Science. Librarians can be helpful in answering the questions of these inquirers. They need to pray for alertness to discern the need and meet it with what is just right. This may be a word of explanation or a reference from Mrs. Eddy's writings.

A librarian writes: "Our Reading Room has welcomed increasing numbers of visitors who were searching for an understanding of God and man as taught in Christian Science. Recently two guidance counselors and several students from a small college visited the Reading Room. Most of them knew that Mrs. Eddy is the author of Science and Health. It seemed appropriate to explain to them that Christian Scientists regard Mrs. Eddy as the revelator of spiritual Truth to this age and that Christian Science has come in fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. They became acquainted with the definition of God in Science and Health. The attendant also called then' attention to Jesus' mission in the world with Mrs. Eddy's words (Science and Health, p. 26): 'His mission was to reveal the Science of celestial being, to prove what God is and what He does for man.'

"Before leaving, the two counselors were each presented with a copy of The Christian Science Monitor featuring the new series, 'What's Right with U.S. Public Schools?" The students were asked what hobbies they enjoyed. One boy gratefully accepted a Monitor with the series 'Journey to Asia' in photographs. Another, interested in science, chose the issue featuring 'Archives of the Universe.' One of the girls had been doing an assignment for college on the United Nations and was delighted to accept the article 'Twenty Years of the U.N.'"
