I am so very grateful to have been...
I am so very grateful to have been reared in Christian Science and for my consequent freedom from the so-called children's diseases. There were six children in our family, and Christian Science always solved quickly any problem that did arise.
When I was a child, and later when I was in my teens, my mother or a practitioner always helped me with any difficulty, and so I never had to rely fully on my own understanding of Christian Science until I was married and had children. As I began to do prayerful metaphysical work for myself and the children, I realized how valuable our Sunday School is. It gives such a wonderful background to our young people, and this background was now enabling me to demonstrate the truth of Christian Science in my own experience.
I am also grateful that I am able to send our children to the Sunday School and to teach a class of my own. Teaching is certainly a rewarding and wonderful experience, and I find myself learning also, as both the pupils and I grow in the understanding of God, divine Mind, who is the real teacher of all.
In our family we have had healings of fevers, impetigo, and an ear infection which caused partial loss of hearing. I awoke one night with such severe pain in my chest that I was hardly able to breathe and could not think clearly enough to give myself a treatment. I had my husband telephone a practitioner for help. By the time he returned from telephoning, I was fine. This difficulty tried to appear several times during the next two months, and each time it was met with the truth. There has been no recurrence of this trouble for over four years.
But I am not grateful for just the physical healing alone, for with each step toward the complete physical healing came a spiritual step forward which meant more than the physical healing. It is this spiritual advancement which helps us to work out even greater problems as we strive to realize our spiritual identity. As Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 66 ), "Each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love."
This testimony would not be complete without an expression of my deep gratitude for the wonderful experience of giving birth to our last child at home. Christian Science treatment was given before, during, and after the birth; and for the wonderful sense of freedom and harmony I experienced, I am very grateful.
Christian Science is my guide in life, and I am grateful for Mrs. Eddy, who gave Science to the world, for it is indeed the way to health and happiness, shown to us by our Master, Christ Jesus. Also for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for all the avenues through which Christian Science is made available to us, including the enlightening experience of class instruction, I am deeply grateful.—(Mrs.) Sandra Carolyn Parker, Indianapolis, Indiana.
