Wells of Inspiration

God's universe is wholly spiritual. In it all is order and harmony and peace. It is in reality the only universe there is. It is your universe and my universe. Any appearance in the human experience that is not orderly and harmonious is unreal and can be proved to be so.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 444), "Immortals, or God's children in divine Science, are one harmonious family; but mortals, or the 'children of men' in material sense, are discordant and ofttimes false brethren." Discord, even strife, sometimes comes between two or more persons in business, in the home, or in the church. At such times Christian Scientists do not yield to the difficulty, but firmly proceed to heal it in an orderly way, seeking God's direction and winning peace for themselves and often for all those involved.

The experience of Isaac as told in the twenty-sixth chapter of Genesis illustrates the spiritual method of overcoming strife and its effects and establishing peace. We read that Isaac, dwelling in Gerar in the land of the Philistines, dug again the wells that Abraham had dug and that the Philistines had filled up. When Isaac's servants dug the first well, the herdmen of Gerar fought with them. So Isaac then moved to another place and dug another well.
