Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was given to me in June, 1909, and I accepted what it teaches of God. Two months later my father passed on, and I turned to God immediately and was freed from grief and a sense of loss. Several months after I began to read Science and Health I realized that I had been healed of backaches and headaches, the results of a spinal injury about ten years before.

For five years I read the textbook, accepting its teachings without having association with other Christian Scientists. Moving to a place where Christian Science services were held, I soon joined the Christian Science Society there. I filled several offices before serving as Second Reader. I am very grateful for these opportunities to grow spiritually by sharing in church work. In 1915 I joined The Mother Church.

In 1918 I was healed of influenza. The fourth day I was well, and I walked about a mile to church to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. In a recent epidemic of the same illness I became ill but kept my thought busy with passages which had been memorized from the Bible and from Science and Health, and I had no fear. The second day I was up and dressed, and complete healing came, through persistent work, on the fourth day.
