When our son was two weeks...

When our son was two weeks old, large blisters began to form on his stomach and thighs, but since we did not have a medical diagnosis I do not know what the condition was. I began to apply the truths of Christian Science to the situation, studying and praying as we are instructed to do in the textbook by Mrs. Eddy.

Then we decided it would be wise to seek the aid of a Christian Science practitioner. As I dialed the telephone number, I had in mind that Mrs. Eddy writes on page 412 of the textbook, "Mentally insist that harmony is the fact, and that sickness is a temporal dream." On the same page she continues, "If the case is that of a young child or an infant, it needs to be met mainly through the parent's thought, silently or audibly on the aforesaid basis of Christian Science."

The practitioner referred at once to this latter statement and encouraged me to overcome the fear I felt. This I did. I went into the living room and sat down to pray. My anxiety had been growing almost hourly, and I was very much in need of spiritual illumination. A series of questions and answers began to come to me. Is anyone anxious about God's welfare? I asked myself. No! Then need anyone be concerned about the well-being of His offspring, His ideas? No! God's ideas must be as perfect and joyous as their divine source.
