My first two healings in Christian Science...

My first two healings in Christian Science were those of a headache and of the smoking habit; these healings occurred approximately fifteen years ago. At that time I knew little or nothing about this wonderful, practical religion; but I did have a Christian Science friend, whose loving-kindness was a constant inspiration to me. One day when I seemed greatly distressed with a severe headache, my friend gently said, "Why don't you talk with a Christian Science practitioner?"

How vividly I recall that first visit to the practitioner, who quoted to me passages from the King James Version of the Bible! She explained that in her book Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has given the world the key to unlock the treasures of the Bible.

Among the passages in the Bible that stood out to me were these: "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (Gen. 1:31 ), and, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect" (Matt. 5:48 ).

I literally absorbed these spiritual truths and left the practitioner's office with no headache and with a great sense of joyous buoyancy. It was then I discovered that the desire for cigarettes had completely left me. This was an instantaneous and permanent healing.

Thus began my journey from sense to Soul. However, it was not until five years later that the turning point in my experience came. I had been suffering for months from a stomach disorder and had become very fearful because of inability to retain food. In order to satisfy my husband, who is not a student of Christian Science, I consulted a doctor and was advised emphatically that unless I had immediate surgery, I could not live nine months.

My husband agreed that the decision should be mine, and I readily took a firm, positive stand for Truth. I studied constantly, and prayerful work was taken up by a practitioner. The condition improved gradually; and since spending a glorious week of rest and study in 1951 at the Sanatorium of the Christian Science Benevolent Association on Pacific Coast, I have been completely free from this digestive disturbance.

Two years later a small, hard lump appeared on my left side, and since it was most frightening to me, I asked for Christian Science treatment. The practitioner quieted my fears by reminding me of the following statements by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 463 ): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive," and (p. 393 ), "Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation." Within two weeks a large, deep abscess opened, drained, and disappeared entirely.

More recently when a precious, loyal friend passed on, I was sustained by divine Love and experienced no sense of grief or separation. Through the years health, home, companionship, supply, confidence, and joy have been manifested.

I am deeply grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, and for the yearly association meeting. I deem it a priceless privilege to serve the Cause of Christian Science.— (Mrs.) Kay Bosenhart, Seattle, Washington.
