When I was introduced to Christian Science...
When I was introduced to Christian Science in June, 1956, I immediately bought the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
After reading only a few pages I decided to help my daughter, who was then ten years old and who had been suffering from asthma for nearly four years.
I had tried every known material method, including homeopathy, Indian herbs, and surgery. As a last resort a long change of climate had been recommended, and I had taken her to the hills for more than three months; but on our wayback she had experienced a return of the symptoms.
When I found in the textbook the truth of man's real being, I explained to my daughter that she was a perfect child of God and that sickness was a bad dream from which she needed to be awakened. I added that labored action did not exist in the realm of God, divine Love, and that it was a lie, which should not be admitted into our consciousness.
These truths appealed to her greatly, and later, when a mild attack of asthma occurred, she held on to the truth, with the help of a Christian Science practitioner, and had no medical help. She was quickly freed.
Some time later she had a very severe attack. I could not bear to see her breathing so heavily, and I asked her to use at least a hot-water bottle for relief. However, she was very firm and pointed out to me that there was more power in God than in a hot-water bottle and that she would rely only on Him for relief. This made me realize the truth too; and with the help of the practitioner the condition quickly improved. The next day there were no aftereffects of the attack. This proved to be the last of the asthma for my daughter.
I am very grateful for all the healings which I have experienced and witnessed. The world owes a great debt to our Master, Christ Jesus, for showing us the way, to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, for giving us the Science which is able to lead us out of the wilderness of mortal strife, and to the practitioners, who are working daily for the uplifting of mankind. —(Mrs.) Piloo Keki Arajanwala Bombay, India.
