Through the study of Christian Science...

Through the study of Christian Science, my family and I have been blessed in innumerable ways. The many physical healings we have experienced include those of colds, influenza, contagious diseases, eyestrain, cuts, headaches, warts, faintness, and toothache.

From my earliest recollections, I had eye soreness from reading. I never wanted to read hooks when I was in school, and I used to marvel at the children who could sit down and enjoy reading. My parents had my eyes tested and glasses made, but this did not eliminate the soreness. I wore glasses until some time after I started reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.

One day I found that I had been reading the textbook for hours with glasses with no difficulty. I took them off and decided not to wear them again, and I have not done so since. Strange as it may seem, when I read other books, my eyes still bothered me for a while. One day I was talking with a fellow church member about this, and she made it clear that it was unnecessary for me to have any trouble at all. I then realized how absurd it was that I could read one book without difficulty and not other-books. The impairment was then completely healed, and I have been able to read without difficulty for years.

I am also thankful for freedom from fear of colds. At one time I had had a cold for several days. One morning I found myself with a free hour; so I went off by myself with Science and Health and read for a half hour pages 410, 411, and 412, which deal with mental treatment. At the end of that time I became conscious that I was free.

We are especially thankful for the help of Christian Science in the rearing of our children. When one of our sons was a few days old, he stopped taking his milk for a whole day. By evening he was crying a great deal, but still would not eat. During the night he took very little milk and had little sleep. In the morning we called a Christian Science practitioner.

The practitioner gave us some references in Science and Health to study. One in particular gave me courage and hope. It was this (pp. 566, 567 ): "Michael's characteristic is spiritual strength. He leads the hosts of heaven against the power of sin, Satan, and fights the holy wars. Gabriel has the more quiet task of imparting a sense of the ever-presence of ministering Love. These angels deliver us from the depths."

About noon we decided to call the practitioner again, since the baby was still not eating or sleeping normally. The practitioner said that she would come to our house. I shall always be grateful for the healing that I saw take place. After she arrived, she sat quietly with the baby in her arms for several minutes. The child fell asleep and had his first normal resting period in over a day. It had seemed to us that if he would take his milk, he would stop crying and rest; but, instead, it was the Word of God that gave him his first good rest. A complete healing took place.

I thank our Father-Mother God for Christ Jesus, for Mary Baker Eddy, and for the Christian Science movement. I am grateful for class instruction.—Richard M. Bacon, National City, California.
