Church Dedications
Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Port Angeles, Washington (First Church).
First Church of Christ, Scientist, Port Angeles, Washington, invites the public to services dedicating its new edifice located at 120 West Eighth Street. The services will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Christian Science was brought to Port Angeles in the spring of 1898 when a few students of this religion came to this town in the Far West from the East Coast. Services were held in private homes until the growing attendance made it necessary to rent the Odd Fellows Hall on Front Street.
The group of students, having met all the requirements of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, organized a church on October 19, 1899. [It was recognized by The Mother Church in April, 1900, as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Port Angeles.]
In 1908 the growth of the church made the erection of a church edifice [necessary). Two lots on Eighth Street between Laurel and Oak Streets were donated by a grateful Christian Scientist.
A short time later...dedication services [in the new edifice] were held. . . .
In the following years, the growing Sunday School and the larger church attendance demanded remodeling and enlarging the church structure. This was done in 1931 and was made possible by a grant from the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
At the close of the Second World War, it became apparent that a larger church edifice was needed. On December 22, 1952, an additional lot adjoining the church property was purchased and on December 10, 1957, construction of the new edifice began.
Plans were worked out by the architect to incorporate the original structure with the new in such a way as to make the complete church attractive in design with landscaping, lawn, and ample parking area.
Through the careful planning by the architect...and contractor ...it was possible to hold services in the building without interruption during construction....On June 10, 1958, the building was completed.
