Christian Science came into my...
Christian Science came into my experience when I was a child. My mother, who had been under the care of physicians for many years, was completely healed by this Science. As a result of this healing I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School and had the privilege of its teachings until I reached the age of twenty. This was indeed a privilege, for what f learned there of God and of my perfection as His child has remained with me through the years to heal and to bless.
I have experienced many healings while serving in the activities of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and I should like to relate one that has meant much to me. Since early childhood I had had an offensive discharge from one of my ears. Physicians had told my parents that this was the effect of a serious illness which I had had and that nothing could be done about it.
Through our study of Christian Science, we learned that something could be done about it. Mother and I prayed earnestly to know God better and to become more aware of my perfection as His child. The condition improved somewhat, but was not healed.
Years later I was elected to serve as Reader in a branch church. My first thought was, "Do I express enough of the Christ for such an important work?"
I knew that in speaking of Readers, Mrs. Eddy says (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 249 ), "What our churches need is that devout, unselfed quality of thought which spiritualizes the congregation."
It was my sincere desire to express that unselfed quality of thought, and so I approached this work by listing on a sheet of paper the Christlike qualities I felt I needed to express—spirituality, purity, humility, unselfed love, joy, and so on.
With the Bible, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and her other writings, and the Concordances to these books as my constant help, I endeavored to learn more of spiritual qualities so that f might express them more in my daily activities and especially at the desk each Wednesday and Sunday. This study proved to be a wonderful experience and brought me not only much spiritual growth but complete freedom from the ear condition, which had seemed to be a part of me for so long. I had served as Reader only a short time when this healing came.
Many times since this healing I have recalled what Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 359 ), "The way is absolute divine Science: walk ye in it; but remember that Science is demonstrated by degrees, and our demonstration rises only as we rise in the scale of being." I knew that I was compelled to rise to heights in my thinking that I had not attained before.
My gratitude for the work of our Master, Christ Jesus, and of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, increases each day. Christian Science has proved to be the pearl of great price to me, and I am sincerely grateful for its many blessings.— (Mrs.)Evelyn M. Moore, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
