I should like to tell of a healing...
I should like to tell of a healing through Christian Science which I experienced while visiting in Boston two years ago. I was suffering from severe bronchitis. A Christian Science practitioner, sensing that the cough might be the effect of irritation or fear, advised me to affirm with a grateful heart that my true selfhood as a child of God had nothing to do with a cough or any other discord. In order to hold on to this truth. I tried to purify my consciousness with thoughts of Truth and Love, and after a few days my healing was complete.
I was grateful, because when I had had the same illness years ago and had been under medical care, the cure had taken much longer. The speedy healing through Christian Science was a proof of the presence of the never-failing Christ, or idea of God. The realization that all things are possible to God, who maintains His own image and likeness forever in perfection, brought me this blessing.
I am deeply grateful for Christian Science, for membership in The Mother Church, for the privilege of serving in many capacities in a branch church, and for the understanding which has come to me through the inspiration of class instruction and the yearly association meetings.—G. Henri Hemmes, The Hague, Netherlands.
I am happy to verify my father's testimony; he stayed in our home at the time of the above-mentioned healing.
Christian Science has always been a great help in our family, and I enjoyed the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School from early childhood.
When my mother passed on many years ago, a friend wrote us what Mrs. Eddy says on page 296 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" when speaking of the passing on of her publisher, Joseph Armstrong, "He is wiser to-day, healthier and happier, than yesterday." This statement gave me a great sense of comfort, which has always stayed with me. It was wonderful to perceive that the love which my mother had expressed toward us was in reality God's love expressed and that therefore it was still present, unchanged and undiminished. This perception filled me with a greater desire to express Love than I had ever had before.
When my husband lost his position as a result of a financial recession, we had an opportunity to prove that supply comes from the one and only source, God, and is therefore unchanged. One day I felt very much depressed about the situation. There did not seem to be any way to solve this problem.
The thought came to me to sing a few hymns to our little daughter, who loves to hear them. I started with the words of Mrs. Eddy's poem "'Feed My Sheep.'" The last two lines of the first verse read (Poems, p. 14 ).
"I will follow and rejoice
All the rugged way."
It became clear to me that I, indeed, could rejoice, because joy is a quality of God, and that we should not do anything else but express it no matter what the outward material circumstances seem to be.
A sense of joy and gratitude for Christian Science filled me. Ten minutes later a telephone call informed us that another position had opened up for my husband.
We are indeed very grateful for Christian Science and for the privilege of being local members of The Mother Church.—(Mrs.) Johanna G. Winkel, Brighton, Massachusetts.
