From childhood, living had been...

From childhood, living had been one long, dark ordeal for me. There seemed to be no logic to life, and only occasionally was there happiness in it for me. It was as though I were on the outside and looking in the window at all the people who were really living.

My husband and his family were students of Christian Science; and since I had no religion at all, I attended church with my husband, although I did not really listen. Our children had been enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School for almost ten years before it became clear to me that I too could learn of God and of man in His likeness. When I wholeheartedly devoted my time to the study and application of the truths I found in the writings of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, much light came, and soon I was happier than ever before.

Many healings have resulted, including that of the smoking habit and of social drinking. The healing of these habits came through my desire for church membership, which, I knew, would help me to grow in the understanding and application of Christian Science.

A consecrated practitioner, expressing much love and patience, answered my questions and showed me how to study the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. The blessings of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church followed.

At one time deafness in one ear, which had persisted for thirteen days was healed. The healing came after I had read these lines from Science and Health (p. 242 ): "In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant of error,—self-will, self-justification, and self-love,—which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death."

I realized that I should express more patience with everyone, including myself, because God is eternally patient with His creation and had gently led me to the truth. As I persisted in doing this, the complete healing came.

For the practitioners, the literature, the lectures, the radio and television broadcasts, I am sincerely thankful. With all my heart I am grateful to God, to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and to Mary Baker Eddy, our Leader, for Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Lois Pinney, Los Angeles, California.
