The Inter Lake

Kalispell, Montana (First Church).

The new edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Kalispell, Montana, at 502 West Wyoming Street, will be dedicated in three services Sunday, at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m....

In 1903 a small group of students of Christian Science in Kalispell organized a Christian Science Society, which met in the members' homes. [It was recognized by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, as Christian Science Society, Kalispell, in May, 1904.]

In 1906 the group rented the Lodge Room in the MacIntosh Building where separate rooms for services, Sunday School, and the Reading Room were available.

With increased membership the society, in September, 1907, secured a hall in the Knight and Twining Building on First Avenue, East. On April 17, 1908, the society was recognized by The Mother Church as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Kalispell.

In 1913 the church moved for a third time. It met on the second floor of the Kalispell Mercantile Building on First Avenue, East.

In 1922 the purchase of a house and lot on Third Avenue, East, and Second Street was negotiated. Later the house was sold and removed, and in 1926 ground was broken for a new church edifice. In November, 1926, the church was formally opened for services on Thanksgiving Day. It was dedicated ... on March 31, 1929, with help from the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy.

In 1956 the members voted to retire the grant, and in January, 1958, the grant was paid in full with a letter of gratitude to the Trustees under the Will.

In 1957 the membership voted in favor of selling the edifice to School District No. 5. Two lots were purchased on Fifth Avenue, West-North, and Wyoming Street. Last May a contract was let for the erection of the new building. Ground was broken June 1, and the edifice was completed and reach for use on October 15.

The structure is of pumice block and native materials and is faced with Tennessee marble. The interior is finished in Philippine mahogany.

The public is invited to attend the services.
