In the Bible we read (Isa. 52:7), "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings." The good tidings of Christian Science were brought to me when I had lost all faith in materia medica. Our youngest child had just passed on, and I was deep in discouragement, believing that God had punished us in this way. As I had a severe cold and had lost much strength, the doctor recommended that I go to the hospital.

I commenced to pray to God in earnest to heal me in order that I might be able to care for my family. God truly answered my prayer, for a former neighbor, who had recently been healed through Christian Science, came to see me.

On seeing my condition, this friend said to me: "There is only one Physician and that is God. You know, our Master said that the first of all the commandments is [Mark 12:30], "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.'" Then the neighbor added, "While you are thinking of yourself, you are not thinking of God."
