"Ye shall seek me, and find me,...

"Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity" (Jer. 29:13,14 ). This Bible promise I have found to be true. For more than twenty years I was in bondage to the cigarette habit. In the early days of my addiction I was quite proud that I was able to quit at any time, and I often boasted that I could control my desires. However, the time soon came when I found that having given matter the power to give me pleasure, I had also given it power to govern me. Many times I determined to quit, but human will was not strong enough to meet the test.

This condition continued until the many healings and demonstrations which came to our home through Christian Science gave me the desire to enter into active work in a Church of Christ, Scientist. I had read testimonies of instantaneous healings of the smoking habit through Science, and I strove for such a healing; but the demonstration did not come.

Finally I pondered carefully the statement on page 35 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which says, "We can unite with this church only as we are new-born of Spirit, as we reach the Life which is Truth and the Truth which is Life by bringing forth the fruits of Love, —casting out error and healing the sick." Studying further, I was led to this sentence on page 463: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."

Feeling that my desire for church membership was right, I declared that any error standing in the way of its fulfillment would be removed. Shortly thereafter the complete healing came with no suffering or inharmony. Having taken my stand for Truth. I found myself sustained by Truth, Life, and Love; and all desire for tobacco left me.

Through the help of practitioners who worked for me at different times, I was also healed of a desire for liquor. Our home has been blessed and protected, supply has been manifested, and many healings have been ours through dependence on God. I am indeed grateful for the opportunities of loving and unselfish service offered through membership in The Mother Church and a branch church.

Words can never express my gratitude to God for revealing the Comforter to Mrs. Eddy and for her consecration in giving her revelation to the world. I can only endeavor to live in such a manner that it may show forth in some degree my appreciation for this healing truth. Christian Science.— John D. Minto, Salem, Oregon.
