A teacher of Christian Science...
A teacher of Christian Science once reminded me, "Progress Spirit ward is progress in everything." All the blessings that have come to me in the last twenty years confirm that this is true and that progress Spirit ward in Christian Science is the best progress of all.
When I was a young architectural assistant in London, England, in 1934, I was attracted by the orderly charm of a Christian Science Reading Room. My first study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, convinced me that here was the full truth I had been seeking throughout my orthodox church training. I had been confirmed in an orthodox church, but here was a deeper sense of confirmation, confirming such Scriptural prophecies as (Matt. 5:6 ), "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."
With my finding of Truth came signs following in the form of various healings, including that of acute eyestrain. Better employment unfolded, and a deeper understanding of life was gained. Progress and healings have continued through the years. Many demonstrations of divine guidance and protection were made while I was serving in Britain's Royal Navy in World War II. During this period there were dramatic as well as undramatic evidences of Love's protection resulting from my consciousness of the truths of Christian Science. I am grateful for the inspiration gained from adhering to the textbook and also for friends among students of Christian Science in both hemispheres.
Shortly after demobilization I returned to my home town and actively participated in church work. Three years later I was able to visit the United States, where a happy companionship unfolded with the faithful Christian Scientist who later became my wife. While visiting the States I was led to have class instruction from a teacher to whom I was divinely guided. The past few years have taught me how valuable a Christianly scientific understanding is.
Briefly given, here is just one of many experiences that have convinced me of the divine guidance and protection we can expect in every venture. By way of economical transport and free enjoyment, in the summer of 1952 I motorcycled from London to Liverpool, England. Then after shipping to the United States I motorcycled from Boston, Massachusetts, to Saint Paul, Minnesota. On neither occasion was there a single delaying hitch, concern, or mishap, even when my time schedule forced me one night to sleep under the stars.
I have been healed of sprained muscles and various other physical ailments. In addition, I have received great help in passing examinations and in recovering valuable articles that have been lost. A joyous marriage companionship has inspired me to more consecrated work for God and my fellow men.
I am particularly grateful for a clearer, higher sense of purpose in living. A deeper understanding has been gained of the needs of a world suffering from uncertainty and hungering for the universal government by divine Principle. I am deeply grateful to Christ Jesus our Way shower and to Mrs. Eddy, our Leader, as well as to all consecrated Christian Scientists, for their indispensable services to mankind.— Gerald Stanwell, Saint Paul, Minnesota.
