Our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes on page 167 of Science and Health, "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." I proved this statement to be true about sixteen years ago when confronted by a physical disability and a very low state of health. A member of my family called in a physician, and after an examination he said that an operation was imperative, as a fibroid tumor was in evidence.

I was a very young student of Christian Science at this time and knew little of what it teaches, but I had faith in it; so I told the doctor that I thought Christian Science could heal the condition. He was very tolerant, but he said this case could not be healed by Christian Science. He requested that I remain in bed for a week. I was obedient to his wish, but I took this opportunity to study my Bible and Science and Health very searchingly. At the end of the week I left for a prearranged holiday of two weeks. During that time, through continued study, I began to understand what constitutes true growth; and my thoughts turned away from the material growth.

Upon my return the doctor again called and suggested that he should make arrangements for the operation. I thanked him for his attention but explained that, whereas before going away I only thought Christian Science could heal me, now I knew it could; hence the operation would not be necessary. All discomfort ceased within a short time, and the healing of my physical condition was complete and has been permanent. I give thanks to God for this as well as subsequent healings.
