LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

South Pasadena Review

South Pasadena Review South Pasadena, California

An advertisement of a new book in a recent issue of Magazine California, which is a supplement to the South Pasadena Review, declared, among other things, "The object of this book is to reinstate Christian Science as it was revealed to Mary Baker Eddy and set forth in the first edition of 'Science and Health' by 'the divine power of Truth and Love.'"

No one can better state a revelation than the one to whom it is given. Mrs. Eddy, through toil and long years of study of the Bible, discovered the divine rules of healing as practiced by Christ Jesus and his disciples and set them forth in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, which was first issued with that title in 1875.

No basic changes in the discovery were made in any subsequent edition. Concerning one of the editions she declared in her book "Retrospection and Introspection" (pp. 82, 83 ): "It is often asked which revision of Science and Health is the best. The arrangement of my last revision, in 1890, makes the subject-matter clearer than any previous edition, and it is therefore better adapted to spiritualize thought and elucidate scientific healing and teaching."

"Primitive Christian Science" is identical with its present statement and practice, and is also identical with primitive Christianity as taught and practiced by Christ Jesus. The latest edition of Science and Health, available in Christian Science Reading Rooms and public libraries, is the one in use in all Christian Science churches, and is a perfectly expressed exposition of the complete revelation of Christian Science.
