Changed concept of God and healing of acute indigestion
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes (Church Manual, Art. VIII, Sect. 24 ): "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)." I, like thousands of others, can never give praise enough to God for the healing power of Truth as taught in Christian Science.
At an early age I found myself seeking a different concept of God from what was being presented to me. I could not accept a concept of God as a personal deity seated upon a throne in the heavens, who afflicts and punishes His children. I did, however, feel a great sense of guilt and unhappiness in not having any faith. So when Christian Science was presented to me, all dissatisfaction left me, and I knew I had found the way.
I had always suffered from ill-health and was about to go to a hospital to have treatment for a fallen stomach and acute indigestion. One visit to a Christian Science practitioner healed me of those disorders. I never again touched any form of medicine or ever had any desire for it. I do not remember what the practitioner told me, except that I was to eat anything I wanted to. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes (p. 388 ), "The fact is, food does not affect the absolute Life of man, and this becomes self-evident, when we learn that God is our Life."
I have witnessed many healings and shall always feel deeply grateful for the healing over fifteen years ago of a dear one of tuberculosis. After being in a sanatorium for several years, undergoing an operation and being kept in a cast for a long time, this one was healed in Christian Science in a few days. At the time she turned to Christian Science for help, a steel brace was being worn; it was put off the first day she was under treatment and was never used again. Perfect health has been enjoyed ever since.
For myself I want to express the greatest possible praise to our beloved Leader for the understanding Christian Science gives of Life. At the passing on of my father a few years ago, I rose to the realization that God is and therefore man is; that because He lives, we too live; and that there is no death.
Truly, I am grateful for Christian Science, for our beloved Leader, and for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. For the great privilege of class instruction with a student of our revered Leader, I am most grateful. And for my present employment with one of the activities of The Mother Church, and for the benefits which have been derived therefrom, I wish to express my deepest appreciation.—(Miss) Edith G. Gilbertson, San Francisco, California.
I am happy to verify the above testimony, as I am the one who had the healing of tuberculosis over fifteen years ago.—(Mrs.) Alice Ulvin Sonnesyn, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
