Christian Science has brought to...

Christian Science has brought to our home joy, freedom, and peace, a peace that replaces to a great measure the apprehensions of human experience. This blessed truth has revealed to us a God who is Love, a tender, loving Father-Mother, who provides His children with all good and who has brought us closer to Him than ever before.

Science has healed us of various physical difficulties. One such experience over five years ago involved the freeing of our family of six from the effects of a very serious automobile accident. Our station wagon left the road on a mountain grade about fifty miles from home, struck a tree with full force, and overturned. The tree prevented us from going down the embankment, but the car was almost completely demolished.

Through the forest rangers, we immediately got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner from our home city. Although the instructions as to location were very indefinite, the practitioner started prayerfully forth. She came upon one ambulance on the mountain grade and followed it to the receiving hospital, where alert thinking kept us from being taken into the building. Great resistance on the part of doctors and nurses was lovingly overcome. They were assured that Christian Science would meet our every need, and we were allowed to proceed to our home forty miles away. By the time we reached home, there was much improvement. The next day we were all on our feet, the children able to attend school. There were no aftereffects of shock; lacerations and bruises disappeared within six days.

The driver of the car had been severely cut: some lacerations were very deep and at least twelve inches long, the skull was fractured, and there seemed a possibility of permanent eye injury. Lacerations and discoloration of the eye healed before the week's end, and the eyesight was entirely restored. There was complete freedom from suffering because of the skull fracture, and at no time was there confinement on account of injuries.

Another passenger suffered a crushed chest and was unable to move himself. However, he too was freed and the following day arose, dressed, and enjoyed a short drive, returning to normal business activity in two days.

During the entire experience the comfort of our Father's loving presence was so clearly felt that we knew we stood on holy ground. I shall ever be grateful to the friend and practitioner who supported us with the clear realization of man's immortality and consequent immunity from harm. Because of her spiritual discernment, no medical aid was sought or used.

The prophylactic as well as the therapeutic value of Christian Science has been proved to us. The general health of the family has improved. In addition to this physical well-being, regeneration of character has taken place and is still going on. This too is cause for much gratitude to the Leader of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, who tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 14 ), "Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth." —(Mrs.) Florence V. Gustafson, San Diego, California.
