In the Bible we read (II Cor. 5:8), "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to he absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord;" and in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy states (p. 425): "Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered. Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew." Christian Science has never failed to meet my need when I have turned unreservedly to God for my help.

One of the first healings I experienced through radical reliance upon Christian Science occurred while I was still a pupil in the Sunday School. I do not know what medical name would have been attached to the condition, but I wakened one morning with a great sense of pain. I was conscious of the fact that I had been repeating "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of Science and Health for some time. The help of a Christian Science practitioner was asked for and lovingly given. I spent the entire day reading and studying that week's Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, but as evening came on the condition grew worse. My mother telephoned the practitioner for me and asked her to come to our home. I shall never forget her visit with me that evening. Her clear thought, so loving and completely reliant upon God's healing power, stilled the fear in my thought then, as it has done so many times since. I suffered one last attack of pain just as she was leaving and then fell asleep almost immediately.

The next morning I wakened to the glorious realization of freedom, and gratitude flooded my being. Love and gratitude for the healing power of Truth so filled my consciousness that a condition of paralysis which manifested itself grew rapidly less and in about one hour had entirely disappeared. I walked to the office that morning, a twenty-five minute walk, completely healed, rejoicing in God's goodness.
