I wish to express my gratitude...
I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science. It has always met my every need, physical, moral, and financial. Its application in our home has resulted in harmony, understanding, and love.
My grandmother and mother began the study of Christian Science fifty-eight years ago, and I have had the guidance of Truth all my life. Countless are the blessings it has brought, proving that the real man is sinless and immortal, the perfect image of God, divine Mind, and therefore he cannot possibly be sick or sinful.
During my childhood I experienced many instantaneous healings. Diphtheria, mumps, measles, malaria, warts, and deafness were overcome immediately through the application of Christian Science, so that I had a perfect attendance record at school and work.
I am very grateful that I had the invaluable privilege of attending The Mother Church Sunday School, and that our boys also had this privilege. There they received the foundation of an understanding of Truth and Love, so that now they are able to meet most of their own problems. We have had many beautiful proofs of God's protection, proofs that divine Love is ever operating, guiding and protecting each member of the family.
One winter the youngest boy was wonderfully protected when a three-ton truck ran over both his legs. He was able to go to school the following day, and an X ray showed no bones broken, which the doctors called a miracle. We know it was divine Love's protecting care that kept him from being harmed, because he was abiding in Love by thinking of "What Our Leader Says" from "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 210 ), where Mrs. Eddy writes, "Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them." He had been studying the passage that morning.
Several years ago, in June, he was told by the school doctor that he must have an operation before he returned to school in the fall. Help was asked from a practitioner, and when he was examined in the fall, the report was entirely satisfactory.
We have proved that God is Life, an ever-present help, and that man is made in His image and likeness. I should not have wanted the responsibility of rearing my children without the help of Christian Science. When our eldest boy was a child, he seemed to be passing on with influenza. We asked a practitioner for help, and when she arrived he was lying in a stupor. The practitioner repeated the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation given in the Christian Science textbook (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, pp. 16, 17 ). He immediately fell into a natural sleep, and before she left he was playing around the house, as well as ever.
When he was twelve years old he became very sick, and was partly paralyzed. We clung to the truth that man lives in Spirit, not in matter, and is the reflection of Life, Truth, and Love, and also to the statement in "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 277 ), "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme." He finally fell asleep, and awoke the next morning entirely free.
Three years ago he was very seriously hurt in a motorcycle accident and was taken unconscious to the hospital, where they said that he could not possibly be moved for three weeks, and that it would be months before he would be able to go back to work. A practitioner was called, and he was home within a week. Two weeks later he went back to work entirely healed, without a scar.
I am grateful for the clearer understanding of God which Christian Science has given me; for our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who gave us this truth; for the many activities of the Christian Science movement; for the loving work of the practitioners; and for class instruction.—(Mrs.) Alice N. Converse, Reading, Massachusetts.
I am one of the boys spoken of in my mother's testimony, and I am very grateful for all the help that I have received from Christian Science. I am grateful that I have this Science to turn to in bringing up my little son.— Robert Converse.
