"It never happened!"

Scientifically to know that error is unreal requires an understanding of the practical metaphysics of Christian Science. This Science is based upon the Bible, and therefore upon the record of creation in the first chapter of Genesis, in which it is stated that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Christian Science, through its simple logic, reveals the practical availability of spiritual good for all mankind. Christian Scientists, in so far as they live what they learn, are proving this record of creation true, in spite of seemingly conflicting beliefs and opinions. Assuredly the world, as it appears to material sense, is far from expressing perfection; but as each individual's consciousness is clarified by Truth, in that proportion is the influence of Christian Science leavening universal thought.

Christian Scientists can refuse to be hampered by a sense of discord, as may be seen in the following incident. A Reader in a Christian Science church broke her ankle; but relying implicitly on Christian Science she followed Mrs. Eddy's instruction on page 397 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "When an accident happens, you think or exclaim, 'I am hurt!'" and, "Now reverse the process. Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why, and you will find the ensuing good effects to be in exact proportion to your disbelief in physics, and your fidelity to divine metaphysics, confidence in God as All, which the Scriptures declare Him to be."

Affirming and reaffirming the truth, and declaring of the accident, "It never happened," she became master of the situation, so that on the following day she walked to her place at the Readers' desk without the least effort or discomfort. She was entirely free, having proved through implicit obedience that in reality the accident never occurred.
