In the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 24),...
In the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 24), Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes: "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)."
Some six years ago I seemed to be suffering very considerable pain and noticed a great loss of weight. Although I tried to see its unreality, this trouble persisted. It became difficult for me to walk, and I had to stop frequently until the pain subsided, so my husband prevailed upon me to go to a doctor for a diagnosis. Therefore, on a Saturday afternoon I went with him to a surgeon of good standing in this city. The doctor examined me, and then told me I had an internal malignant growth. He very kindly but gravely told me that this condition was not curable. He said that I could have X-ray or radium treatment to relieve the condition, but he advised an operation to remove the growth and certain organs. He said it would be absolutely necessary for me to undergo this operation within a month.
Horror and fear of this ailment seemed to overwhelm me all that day, but the next morning I resolved to prove what I knew of Christian Science. I took my Bible and our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, with its Concordance, and spent all the morning and afternoon with them. That evening I went to church, and before the service began I realized quite clearly that God, good, is All. Our beloved Leader says in our textbook (p. 473), "God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power." Therefore, I saw that as God is everywhere, there is no place for evil, for anything unlike Him; consequently, it does not matter what or where error claims to be, because God, good, is there, and any claim of sickness or disease is illusion, a waking dream of sensation in matter.
