"Praise ye the Lord!"

"Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" This passage implies that men by their blindness, slothfulness, and ingratitude overlook an accessible remedy for their ills.

Many people, oppressed by seemingly unsolvable problems, have obeyed the angelic admonition, Express gratitude, give praise to God! They have turned to God in thanksgiving for their blessings, however meager, and have seen their problems solved, as the truth about God, man, and the universe has flooded their thought. Discouragement, envy, hatred, fear, cannot abide in a consciousness filled with praise to God. Indeed, they cannot even find admittance there.

Since praise of God produces such desirable results, it seems wise to learn what we can about it. A dictionary defines the verb "praise" partly as "commend"; and, "Spec., of God . . . to glorify by homage and ascription of perfections or excellent works." Then, to "praise the Lord for his goodness" means to recognize and be grateful for, consciously to contemplate, the many blessings accruing from God.
