In the Christian Science Church Manual (Art. VIII, Sect. 3)...

In the Christian Science Church Manual (Art. VIII, Sect. 3) Mary Baker Eddy says, "He who dated the Christian era is the Ensample in Christian Science." Consistent with this By-Law, Christian Science accepts all the teachings of Christ Jesus and shows men how to put them into practice in accordance with Jesus' commands.

During the Master's three years' ministry, he destroyed sin and healed "all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people," and said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." Consonant with these words, the immediate followers of Christ Jesus healed sickness and sin by spiritual means alone; and healing by the Christly method was continued in the primitive Christian church for about three hundred years after the crucifixion.

Through light obtained from the Bible, Mrs. Eddy discovered the spiritual laws underlying the Master's method and named her discovery "Christian Science." Subsequently, after proving her discovery, through healing sin and so-called functional and organic disease, she presented the complete statement of her discovery in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." By studying this book, and by utilizing its Christianly scientific statements, multitudes have been healed of sin and disease, and renewed in happiness and peace, thus having been brought into the same at-one-ment with God that was enjoyed in primitive Christian times.
