Chicago, Illinois (Twelfth Church).—Located in the central North Side residential district near Lake Shore Drive, is the new Twelfth Church of Christ, Scientist, on Grace Street, of classical design with a Greek Ionic exterior, and built of Bedford stone. The large Ionic columns of the main portico on Grace Street are single monolithic stone shafts, which add monumental dignity to the facade. A large foyer extends across the entire north end of the church, affording direct access to the commodious auditorium, seating twelve hundred and ninety-five. On the basement floor there is a Sunday school room in which amplifiers have been installed to accommodate overflow crowds. The windows are of cathedral glass, which, together with the opalescent lighting in the dome, lends a soft mellow glow to the room. The entire ceiling is a suspended dome, without post or pillar to obstruct the view. The auditorium may be entered from the southwest entrance on the same level. There is a frontage of one hundred and thirty-seven feet on Grace Street.
Herald and ExaminerAkron, Ohio (Second Church).—Second Church of Christ, Scientist, which has met in the auditorium of West High School since its organization in 1920, has purchased the Litchfield property on Marshall Avenue for the erection of a church edifice, it was announced recently. The property has a frontage of one hundred and ninety-eight feet and is beautifully wooded. It is considered especially desirable for a church structure, as it lies between two thoroughfares. The church, which will be erected soon, will have a seating capacity of approximately twelve hundred. It is understood that the house which occupies part of the lot at present, will be sold.—Akron Beacon-Journal.
