The fact has been brought very forcibly to my mind...
The fact has been brought very forcibly to my mind that, thanks to Christian Science and its application to my needs, ten years have been allowed me for repentance and good works. It is a little more than that time since a Scientist came to my bedside and delivered the message which lifted me out of the dark "valley of the shadow of death," where I had so long lingered; but it then seemed that my staying powers were over, and I was fast drifting into the darkness of night. Materia medica had sentenced me to die, and I was so tired of pain untold and weariness unspeakable, that I was ready to give up a struggle which had already lasted for years. Then like an angel came the message of Truth, and I was free. Gone was the pain, gone forever the weariness and dread of day, gone the long nights of terror; and again I walked the earth among my fellow-creatures.
Time is all too short to tell even briefly of the countless blessings that have since been mine. I had lost all faith and belief in a God; now, thanks to Christian Science, I can say with job, "I know that my redeemer liveth." The Bible, long a closed book, conveying no meaning, is now my daily study. Happiness, then a stranger, is now a frequent guest. Fear, then my constant companion, has been relegated to its native nothingness. In mind, body, and estate I have been made new. My daily prayer is that I may be enabled to complete the work which I must do in order to show a small part of my gratitude to God for our beloved Leader's faithful work, and for the courage and love that braved my ignorance and brought to me the blessed truth that made me free.
I desire to return thanks for the help of Christian Science in the recovery of our little daughter from a severe illness. This child, seven and a half years old, was seized with a supposedly contagious throat trouble. I thought I could master it, and did my best, but the next morning the condition seemed so real that I asked help from a practitioner. Then the symptoms changed, and a severe case of fever manifested itself. I telegraphed to another Scientist, and the help was immediate, the cure instantaneous. From an advanced condition of this fever, the child was completely free and ready to get up and play; she had no tedious recovery, but was well as soon as the nothingness of our fear was realized. For this manifestation of ever-present Love I am profoundly grateful, and to our dear Leader enough praise can never be given. I can only say that I hope this new-old truth will ere long be everywhere acknowledged.
I also wish to tell of a recent experience. One day I went to a neighboring town on business and got into a street bus to go to my destination. The driver alighted to let some passengers off, leaving the horses alone and unhitched. A boy passed them on a bicycle, and they instantly started to run. In a moment they were beyond control, and immediately I began to declare the truth for all of us (there were eight persons, including two children, in the bus). The horses ran two blocks, turned into a livery barn, went through it, and as far out of the rear door as they could go. When they were stopped the vehicle was badly wrecked, the bottom and the heavy sides below the glass being all that was left, but no one was hurt. Even the horses were not injured. This experience satisfied me of the protecting power of God, and the trust we may all gain through Christian Science. I can never sufficiently thank our dear Leader, who made it possible for all who will to know the power of Truth to give courage and also protection in danger of every kind.
Millie Morton Morgan, Amarillo, Tex.
For more than ten years it has been a great pleasure to me to tell of the many instances wherein I have received relief from physical ills through Christian Science. My wife, two of our children, and I have each been on the very verge of the grave, as it seemed, and through Christian Science we were speedily and permanently restored to health. Besides this there have been many instances in which we have had almost instant relief from various minor ills. A little more than a year ago I was relieved of a severe attack of acute lung trouble.
After receiving the last-mentioned help, we organized a Christian Science society, holding the meetings in our own residence. The attendance soon increased so much that we secured permanent quarters in the business district of Amarillo, where we now hold three services each week, sometimes with an attendance of as many as thirty-five persons. I am very grateful to Christ Jesus, our Wayshower, for demonstrating to his followers how to live. I am likewise greateful to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her devotion to the truth, and the consecration of her life to promulgating the rule by which we are to reach perfect harmony.—Robert W. Morgan, Amarillo, Tex.
