LETTERS TO OUR LEADER

Boston Mass., Aug. 10, 1907.

Mrs. Mary Baker G. Eddy Pleasant View, Concord, N. H.

Dear Mrs. Eddy:—We, members of the class of 1907, taught by your loyal student, Mr. Alfred Farlow, with one accord send greetings of love and gratitude to you, our dearly beloved Leader. Your revelation of this new-old truth has made it possible for us to come forth from the tomb of material darkness into the light and liberty of the children of God. Your perseverance, toil, and constant obedience to the guidance of the "still, small voice" has cleared away the doubts and mists of creeds and doctrines and revealed the knowing, through proof and demonstration, of the coexistence of God and man, as taught by Christ Jesus.

We are gathered here from many parts of the globe, and as we listen to your patient, loving student's interpretation of the Word, as taught in the Bible and Science and Health, our thought is lifted to that upper chamber where Jesus was preparing his beloved disciples for the glorious triumph of Mind over matter. We want you to know that we appreciate and love you, and are willing to suffer with you that we may reign with you in the conscious joy of the allness of our Father-Mother God. Semper paratus is our class motto, and as we go forth to our individuals fields of work we humbly and prayerfully desire to have that Mind in us "which was also in Christ Jesus;" to put on the whole armor as sentinels on the watch-tower, "always ready" to obey the Scriptural command, "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils."

Lovingly yours in the truth,
Mrs. Katherine Mansfield Moore,
Charles Henry Major,
Miss Carrie Shrewsbury, Committee.

Macon, Ga., Aug. 16, 1907.

Mrs. Mary Baker G. Eddy, Pleasant View, Concord, N. H.

Beloved Friend and Helper:—May I have a minute of your valuable time to thank you for the light you have recently given the world by making so plain the steps which caused you to see that the divine Mind is the only healing and saving power. That God reveals Himself to the one who longs and prays "always to be kept from sin," and to be directed and guided to that Mind "which was also in Christ," should be much easier to believe than to disbelieve. It is so reasonable and right, so like God, to make such an one conscious of, and a messenger of, His goodness, power, and allness.

With the ever-growing desire to see you understood and loved and blessed by every one, I am

Yours in grateful love,
J. R. Mosley.

Louisville, Ky., Aug. 11, 1907.

Mrs. Mary Eddy G. Eddy, Pleasant View, Concord, N. H.

Dear Mrs. Eddy:—I know that with entire serenity you are abiding in the conscious protection of divine Love and Truth; nevertheless, I beg to express to you though in this imperfect manner, my sense of ever-increasing love, loyalty, and gratitude—love because of the great patience and fidelity with which you have labored to discharge the sacred trust imposed on you by our heavenly Father, and gratitude that I have been permitted to come within the radius of the Christ-light, as it shines through your beautiful, loving life into the minds your and hearts of the children of men. Your struggle has been long and arduous, and no doubt at times lonely and disheartening, but who shall number the countless millions that shall yet arise to call you blessed?

In gratitude, love, and loyalty,
L. H. Jones.

Chicago, Ill., July 26, 1907.

Our revered Leader and Teacher:—Do you not think that optimists make good Christian Scientists? I love to "see sermons in stones, and good in every thing." I believe the late persecutions mean much good. Like an electric storm they will help to clarify and recharge the mental atmosphere. Lingering doubts in the minds of the wavering will be dispelled and the Cause of Truth strengthened. There is nothing lost in publicity when one has the right on his side. From now on the startling growth of the Christian Science movement will more than ever help to disarm the enemy. The gratitude of your hosts of students is of itself a bulwark against which there can be no invasion.

In thankful remembrance,
Cassius M. Loomis.

Mrs. Mary Baker G. Eddy Pleasant View, Concord, N. H.

My Dear Leader:—In the nine years that I have devoted to the study of your text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I never experienced so clear a sense of growth as I have the past week, in the study of the Lesson for Aug. 18, subject, "Mind." We certainly own you a great debt of gratitude for giving us the committee who prepare these grand Sermons. This Lesson should heal the world! The greatest need of the hour is for each one to "watch" with you.

Yours in love and truth,
A. L. Hunt, M.D.

El Reno, Okla., Aug. 8, 1907.

Mrs. Mary Baker G. Eddy, Pleasant View, Concord, N. H.

Beloved Leader:—During the past few months our little church has grown, as manifested in more profound interest, greater attendance, and in the larger growth of spiritual understanding. To attest outwardly our inherent loyalty to the Cause of Truth, and to you, our Leader, I have been directed by the church board to convey to you at this time an expression of the unswerving and unwavering fealty of First Church of Christ, Scientist, E1 Reno, Okla., for the Cause we all love so well, and for our much beloved Leader.

Yours in sincerity and truth,
E. J. Simpson, Clerk.

Owosso, Mich., July 31, 1907.

Dear Mrs. Eddy:—Wonderful Leader, standing close to God, pointing the way for the whole world through your writings and Christian example! Christ Jesus told men, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," but they were not ready to believe; now they are ready, hungry to know the religion he taught. Your demonstration of patience and love is convincing all nations that the truth has come in Christian Science to heal all manner of sickness, just as did. I have longed to tell you of the many blessings which Christian Science has brought to me and my family in the past fourteen years,—healing and sin; and though you may never see this, I wish to send it. My prayer is to understand the Bible and Science and Health that I may follow your example of love.

Lovingly your student's student,
Mrs. Elizabeth N. Goodrich.

Norfolk, Va., July 23, 1907.

Beloved Leader:—First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Norfolk, Va., sends greeting and love to you, our dear Leader, for your tireless consecration to God, and loving effort and success in lifting tired humanity out of the bondage or burial of life in matter. Through the planting of truth in the vineyard, the deaf hear, the lame walk, the blind see, the sinner is reclaimed,—all as the result of your prayerful watching to assimilate the Christ-spirit. We gratefully acknowledge your wise leadership, and bow in heartfelt love to you, as God's messenger to us. You have supplied us with a text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which unlocks the deep mysteries and makes the Bible a chart of life, making plain the way of salvation.

You are still working and ascending the divine heights, giving to the world in your book the results of your tireless work. We rejoice in recognizing it as another of Truth's impartations to humanity. Having your loving counsel in this revised light, we will study its truths, made so practical in your life, until we, too, shall be illumined with the inspiration of love daily lived.

This branch of the Mother Vine, your planting, First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Norfolk, Va., again loyally expresses its support in sustaining you, our beloved Leader, in this season of test for the glorious Cause of Christ.

Your loving followers in truth,
Board of Directors.

Delavan, Wis., July 10, 1907.

Mrs. Mary Baker G. Eddy, Concord, N. H.

Beloved Leader:—First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Delavan, extends to you at this time its pledge of loyalty and consecration to the Cause of Christian Science. This church has grown and prospered, brought deliverance from sin and relief from pain to many in this community, and housed itself in an harmonious church home, only because it has been obedient to and grown in the understanding of God and His laws as interpreted by you in our text-book, Science and Health. We rejoice that you, by your purity of heart, saw the truth with sufficient clearness to enable you to present to the world the spiritual interpretation of the life and work of our Master. As beneficiaries of this Christ-healing we are endeavoring to show our appreciation of your great work by emulating the life and works of Jesus in so far as we apprehend them.

Gratefully yours,
Seth W. Gregory, Clerk.
