In a radical and thorough—going classification there are just two standpoints from which Christian Science, or anything whatever, can be judged. One is the standpoint of sense-testimony, and the other is the standpoint of spiritual sense. These standpoints are radically opposed to each other: and one of them is true and the other false. This point is of such fundamental importance that it is well to establish it upon the rock of the Scriptures before proceeding farther.

"Eye [sense-testimony] hath not seen, nor ear [sense-testimony] heard, neither have entered into the heart of [mortal] man, the things which God hath prepared for then that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit." "I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go: [for] ye judge after the flesh [sense-testimony]." "The flesh [sense-testimony] lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other." "If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world [the world of sense-testimony], let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God." The great majority of those who fail to understand Christian Science do so because they take the view-point of sense-testimony in judging.
