Letters to our Leader
Coldwater, Mich.
Rev. Mary Baker G. Eddy, Concord, N.H.
Beloved Leader:—I want to gladden my Christmas-tide by sending a few words of gratitude to you for the wise gift you brought, years ago, to Love's manger, over the desert-sands of human want and suffering,—the best gift for a sorrowing world,—"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
Through reading Science and Health and praying the words line by line, I have been entirely healed of the severest form of organic heart disease, and Truth has led me lovingly and safely on "beside the still waters" of health and peace.
This book has taught me to love God, and it is, day by day, teaching me to judge no man. Believe me to be one who owes much, and is daily praying to love more.
Lovingly,
Anges Florida Chalmers.

Beloved Leader:—My little Virginia, aged five, and I send our love and Christmas greeting, and may we take up a few moments of your time to tell you how thankful we are for the many blessings received through Truth.
I had suffered physically every ill that flesh is heir to. Physicians failed to diagnose my case and gave no hope of my recovery.
Through a relative I purchased the Bible and Science and Health, and in less than three months was completely healed of two ailments that some of the most noted specialists in America had told me were on the books as incurable.
I employed no practitioner, but the loving Truth revealed through Science and Health and the knowledge that I have a God, was my healer.
My heart is filled with love for my dear Leader, and each day, when in silent communion with God, I thank Him for giving us one so true and loving, in following whom we cannot but reap a rich reward of blessings,—of spiritual light. I have been able to help others to see this light, and am striving faithfully to work in Truth and Love.
Little Virginia would like to send through you a little love offering for the room in the Concord Church. She loves Christian Science and quite often makes her own demonstration. When three years old she seemed to have a very severe attack of whooping-cough, which I met in two and a half weeks; also a little later she had the measles which was destroyed in two days through my understanding of Science and Health.
For this and many blessings my heart goes out in gratitude to our beloved Leader, and I am striving each day to be purer and better, reflecting the Christ-principle in thought, word, and deed.
With a heart full of love, I am most faithfully,
Jessie S. Wardwell, Boston, Mass.

Beloved Leader and Teacher:—This second Sunday after Thanksgiving Day is the nineteenth anniversary of my healing by the sermon you preached that day. I went to Hawthorn Hall an indifferent hearer and an almost hopeless invalid. When you had finished speaking I was a new creature. My heart leaped for joy, my song was, "I have found God, and He is my life now. I don't have to die to find Him, He is here and Life is here." The next morning I entered a class, and have been on the field of battle ever since.
These long years seem but moments, now that they are passed, and I thank God and you for leading me through all the experiences that have come.
When I came to you in October we were trying to divide the church, although we were striving to be brethren in the matter, including the financial part also. But your words to the Teachers Association Meeting opened the way for us to go on together, to start anew to work out church organization according to the definition of Church in our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." To human sense it seems an awful sacrifice, but I believe it is the only thing to do. I expect the matter will be adjusted this week, and I am working that this is the way of deliverance for all of us.
I pray that when you call me again I shall be ready and waiting.
Your loving, obedient student,
Sarah J. Clark.

Beloved Leader:—I can no longer withhold from you my deep gratitude for the great blessing received with the thousands at your home last June.
I was so clothed with peace, and an enlarged understanding, that I have been enabled to do quick healing. I will mention one case,—that of a nephew sixteen years of age. After he had suffered several hours with inherited congestion of the stomach and bowels, I was called at twelve o'clock to see him. The condition was so alarming that his mother, who was away from home, was telegraphed for, and it was believed she would never see him again. When the treatment was given he was relieved somewhat, and in an hour he was free from suffering. Our dear text-book, Science and Health, was read to him. At four o'clock he dressed himself and went to town well. He has since been in better health than ever before in his life, and is a better boy. A cousin of his, the same age, had said a few days before this that he never had seen anything that Christian Science had done. After this he said he could say that no more, and is now able to prove to some extent his own understanding by studying for himself. This confirms your statement, that "proofs are better than mere verbal argument" (Science and Health, p.355).
I beg you accept this little expression from one who is striving to be found worthy of the name a Christian Scientist. With love and best wishes, I am sincerely yours,
Sue D. Hines.
