I wish to express my gratitude for the wonderful message...
I wish to express my gratitude for the wonderful message of Truth, as put forth in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
It will be three years in February since I received this blessed truth. I had been a sufferer for a number of years from a complication of diseases, as well as many discords too numerous to mention. To mortal sense the crisis had apparently come after the birth of my baby. I was confined to my bed for five months; my relief coming only from the use of opiates.
There finally came a time when my attending physician gave up all hope of my recovery, claiming that the resources of materia medica had been exhausted so far as his knowledge reached. He suggested that I try Christian Science. I then knew nothing about this teaching, except that I had a grandmother who had embraced it. I loved her dearly, but I was never permitted to see her after she had accepted Christian Science. I used, however, to hear my mother say that surely a great change had come over grandma, judging from the tone of her letters.
A practitioner was called, and to the astonishment of many, as well as myself, I was raised up in three days. The practitioner, like her Exemplar, boldly and courageously walked out on the sea of error, bidding its troubled waves be still. In a short time I could perceive to a limited degree the presence of Truth, and this cleared my clouded sense. From that time I had a desire to know and follow in the footsteps pointed out to us in truth, and I at once started out with a new sense of Life.
I find that the footsteps do not always lead through smooth places, and that obstacles seem to be in my pathway, yet, glory be to God, I know that the Christ-truth rolls away these material obstructions and they disappear as a mist before the morning sun. I mean to press on and finally reach the goal prepared for all God's children from the foundation of the world.
I am ever grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy, also to my loving teacher and practitioner, and the friends who assisted me in my journey "from sense to Soul" (Science and Health, p. 566).—Mrs. J. C. Kelton, Maquoketa,Ia
