Eye on the World: Ukraine, Russia, and international reactions

US Vice President Joe Biden traveled to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, this week to pledge support for the country’s West-leaning government. Biden urged Russia to remove its support for separatists in eastern Ukraine and to pull its troops back from the border. Biden reiterated that the US would help Ukraine with political and economic reforms — including a presidential election scheduled for May 25. His aides also suggested that economic sanctions against Russia could be imposed this week.

Prayer for Ukraine, Russia, and the world community” explains how we can pray in support of stability in Ukraine and a peaceful resolution to the international crisis. We can remove fear from our thinking by recognizing that God, divine Love, is guiding the people of Ukraine and Russia, and that “intelligent action can’t be displaced by the fog of disinformation ... or misinformation.”  God is guiding politicians and policymakers to embrace solutions based not on pride or human will, but on honesty and integrity.

You’ll also enjoy reading “A Russian Christian Scientist’s thoughts on Ukraine,” which reminds us to begin our prayers not by perceiving a problem in need of solving, but by acknowledging God’s power and presence. We can trust that God’s government is in action, and that human institutions can reflect the wisdom and stability of this divine government. We can also remember that God’s love unites people of all nationalities — His guidance transcends geographical and ethnic borders.
