Eye on the world: Thanksgiving

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, saw that gratitude is an active concept, not just a once-a-year event. She writes: “Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 3 ).

“True gratitude comes of the heart's necessity to magnify God; it blossoms out from our real nature and purpose—to image our Maker. Gratitude bursts forth as we see what it means to have the Mind of Christ—the Mind that is God,” explains the writer of “The link between gratitude and healing” as she explores biblical accounts of healing.

In “Persistent leg trouble healed,” the writer, who was on a quest for healing, says, “I began to realize it is right to acknowledge and be grateful for God’s beautiful, perfect creation, all of it, even oneself.”

In her article “Gratitude is a lifesaver,” the author writes, “The healing power of gratitude comes from the fact that gratitude is the conscious recognition of present good”—even when at first it seems there is nothing to be grateful for.  She was totally healed of a severe throat condition.
