Eye on the world: Rejecting racism
In “South Africa rings in new year with racial slurs. A tipping point?” The Christian Science Monitor reports that “South Africa is grappling with a series of incidents that have laid bare the racial divisions that continue to plague the country—especially online—more than two decades after the end of apartheid.” Despite anti-racism responses by South African political groups, the Monitor observes, “... for many, the political response seems hollow in a country where the undercurrent of racism can be felt everywhere, especially on social media.”
Ideas on this subject:
From the Bible:
Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us?
—Malachi 2:10
From the writings of Mary Baker Eddy:
…Love hath one race, one realm, one power.
—Poems, p. 22
It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love. Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brotherhood of man will be established.
—Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 467
Related articles from the Christian Science Sentinel:
In “Getting at the root of racism”: “Divisions dissolve in the light of Christ, because Christ is the one infinite manifestation of the one infinite God, in which all of us are found to be one in Christ. In the Christly understanding of who we truly are—exemplified by Christ Jesus himself—we find God-given dominion over worldly perceptions and attitudes.” And “The brotherhood of man is already divinely established. Its evidence in human experience will expand as we do our part in destroying the underlying mortal, material sense of manhood and womanhood that engenders division.”
In “One realm, one race”: “Isn't the key to healing found finally in a more spiritual approach—in prayer and a deeper understanding of who we all are as God's expression? ... We are all one in the truth of man’s perfect relationship to God…. The dignity of each individual is upheld by divine law, and when we let this law govern our lives, we are contributing substantially to the full healing of racism. Work is still needed.”
