Eye on the world: Reducing crime by ‘feeding a cycle of virtue’
In an editorial titled “Feeding a cycle of virtue,” The Christian Science Monitor notes that crime rates are falling, not just in the United States, but in most of the world, observing: “Virtue is at work…. Moral probity, acceptance of community standards, pursuit of education, respect for others, individual integrity, and, yes, sensitive policing – these are virtues that contribute to a healthy society. And more and more, these are the norm.”
More ideas on this subject:
From the Bible: “Thou upholdest me in mine integrity” (Psalms 41:12 ).
From Mary Baker Eddy: “Only virtue is a rebuke to vice” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 449 ).
In “Ethics and integrity”: “God’s law is and always will be supreme, and its beneficent effects will be felt progressively as human consciousness yields to the divine.”
In “The true concept of man checks crime”: “... man's true nature as a child of God is to express the qualities of God—love, justice, integrity.” And, “As we replace the false concept of man, whether it refers to ourselves or others, we can all take part in the vital work of stamping out crime—today.”
