Eye on the world: Man is ageless

In “What’s age got to do with running for president? The Christian Science Monitor’s Editorial Board remarks on the notable “absence of age discrimination” in the US presidential election campaign. Taking into account workplace trends, too, the Monitor observes that this may not be unique to the election, but may actually reflect “a broader shift among Americans, many of whom might agree that chronological age is ‘nothing but a number.’ ”

Ideas on this subject:

From the Bible:

Thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
Job 11:17

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

From the writings of Mary Baker Eddy:

Life and its faculties are not measured by calendars. The perfect and immortal are the eternal likeness of their Maker…. Man, governed by immortal Mind, is always beautiful and grand. Each succeeding year unfolds wisdom, beauty, and holiness.
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 246

Immortality, exempt from age or decay, has a glory of its own,—the radiance of Soul.
Science and Health, p. 247

In “What does age have to do with it?”: “... the ageless God, divine Love—and not a physical body that seems always too old or too young for something—is the source of who we are and of all that we need. Perfect health, energy, wisdom, and so much more are our rights as the spiritual reflection of God, the eternal and infinite good.”

In “Don't Let the Calendar Get You”: “The capacities and abilities that God, divine Mind, imparts to man can never be lost. The real man is not a deteriorating matter body but a divine idea eternally individualizing the intelligence of Mind. So whether he appears humanly to be twenty-five or seventy-five, the real identity of man abides in changeless perfection in the one Ego, or divine consciousness, and manifests its freshness, alertness, and resourcefulness.”
