Update: North Korean rocket launch fails
A North Korean rocket launch, ostensibly designed to put a satellite into orbit in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of national founder Kim Il-Sung, failed on Friday. The rocket flew for only a short time before crashing into the water. The US and UN condemned the launch in spite of its failure, arguing that it was a secret test of long-range missile technology banned under UN sanctions.

Update: Syrian ceasefire
A ceasefire that went into effect in Syria on Thursday has been largely upheld so far, observers say. A number of citizen protests have taken place since then, but UN envoy Kofi Annan said the ceasefire has been relatively respected, and he plans to send neutral monitors to Syria to oversee the withdrawal of troops.
“For Syria, prayers that bring peace” explores how each of us can support stability, peace, and accountability in Syria and greater Middle East – by praying to see the unifying effect of one God at work in the region.
Immigration in Mexico
New analysis of census data showed “net zero” US immigration this year, as many Mexican migrant workers return home. The combination of a weak US economy and anti-immigrant sentiment, as well as improved education, higher income levels, and lower fertility rates in Mexico than in decades past, has made life in Mexico more viable for many workers.
“Beyond taking sides on immigration reform” explores how each of us can pray about immigration without getting bogged down by personal or political concerns.
