Eye on the world: Breaking through cycles of fear
In “The other front against Islamic State: self-defeating fear” The Christian Science Monitor’s Editorial Board remarks on the need to break the cycle of fear in order to most effectively counter the Islamic State, noting, “The defeat of IS will require not only a clear understanding of what one is afraid of but also how fear plays into it.” The editorial goes on to observe that “... humanity—individual by individual—must bravely and tightly embrace universal values such as freedom, equality, and openness. The walls of fear more easily fall when the trumpets of affirmation are sounded.”
Ideas on this subject:
From the Bible:
“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32 )
“Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to-day; ...” (Exodus 14:13 )
From the writings of Mary Baker Eddy:
“Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is—can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 495 )

In “Let not fear enthrall”: “In the practice of this Science we learn to annul degrading, debilitating material beliefs and to recognize that because God is All, there is no opposing power. Thus the moment we find ourselves succumbing to any foreboding fear, we can see it for what it is and respond to the call to rise from the belief that we live in a material world, with all its restricting, limiting, deteriorating beliefs.”
In “Holding Our Ground”: “The elimination of fear comes with the definite realization that God is the only power, presence, and intelligence; that He created nothing unlike Himself; that man is forever His likeness; and that good reigns here and now.” And “... in the heart filled with a song of gratitude for the invincible knowledge of Truth there is no room for fear….”
