Eye on the world: Advocating for children
In “How this woman became a voice for children in foster care” The Christian Science Monitor shares the story of a woman who volunteers as a court appointed advocate for foster care children.There is a need “for volunteers to be advocates in court—and in life—for children living in foster care …. Volunteers are trained to be advocates for children who have been abused or neglected, as their cases make their way through the system.” The advocates are often the only stable person in the children’s lives, connecting with the children on a regular basis and discerning what their best interests are, so that the court is well informed before making custody decisions. While there is a “desperate” need for more advocates, this woman’s story illustrates the passion and commitment of those who have been moved to volunteer—bringing a light of hope to trying times for these families.
Ideas on this subject:
From the Bible:
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;
From the writings of Mary Baker Eddy:
Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love — be it song, sermon, or Science — blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ’s table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty.

Beloved children, the world has need of you, — and more as children than as men and women: it needs your innocence, unselfishness, faithful affection, uncontaminated lives.

When we turn to God in times of need, we feel the presence of His tender, supportive love. And at the same time we find His Christ, with divine strength, providing the defense we need against the false claims of mortality.”
